Have You No Scar?

  • Mood:
  • Weather:
To those who would think Christianity is a bed of roses or a gospel of prosperity; to those who follow people such as Joel Osteen, Rick Warren, Jerry Falwell, etc: to those who would flee from any sacrifice of self-desire they might be called on to make for their God:

Have you no scar? No hidden scar on foot, or side, or hand?
I hear them say you're mighty in the land;
And you may think yourself a rising star!
Have you no scar?

Have you no wound? Yet I was wounded there on Calvary,
With nails and spear, for all the world to see;
But look! A million lives from death have bloomed!
Have you no wound?

No wound? No scar? Yet as the Master shall the servant be.
And bruised and torn the feet that follow Me;
But yours are whole. Can he have followed far
Who has no wound,
Who has no scar?

"Christianity has not been tried and found wanting; it has been found difficult and left untried."

(Have You No Scar, Amy Carmichael) (Quote, G.K. Chesterton)

Hey girl! That is a great quote from Amy Carmichael. It is so easy for us as Christians to think that life should be easy for us, but when we think of all that God has done for us, shouldn't we be willing to give much more for him? I just finished reading through a book by Rosalind Goforth, missionary to China, and it struck me how many hard things she and her husband suffered, but they accepted them as from the Lord. She knew that Christ had walked the hard road before she had, and that gave her strength to go on.
